LOOM

Description

Designed by J.M. Ferrero, Estudi{H}ac, 2023

Loom is a modular shelving, partition and whiteboard collection designed by José Manuel Ferrero by Estudi{H}ac for Ofitres. This collection arises from the need to find a functional piece offering a real solution to changing hospitality and working places, by combining easy-to-assemble elements.

The weaving loom, at the highest exponent, is the starting source of inspiration. Each of the components in the Loom collection are conceived as threads in a loom, interwoven to create a modular structure with countless combinations and compositions departing from these elements. By adapting this idea to the design of a modular system, the traditional craftmanship gets merged with the contemporary furniture versatility.

Characteristics

The loom-shaped shelf is the point of departure, but it goes far beyond a simple storage rack. It is an artistic expression by itself, the perfect combination of functionality and aesthetics. Each of the shelves pretends to be a thread in a loom. The general structure evokes the fluidity and movement of the weaving process, giving elements a delicate and modern look. The shelf elements are skillfully intertwined, creating an interesting visual pattern and giving a sense of movement to the whole piece. This shelf invites us to appreciate the beauty of everyday objects, while offering a unique and elegant way to organize our personal belongings, transforming the functionality into an aesthetic experience.

Both the partition and the whiteboard use the initial tubular structure of the shelving to create, by playing with shapes (rounded, square, or rectangular) and materials, separations that can be integrated in a shelf, thanks to a simple socket, or work separately, depending on the needs of each situation. A light and simple, yet solid, structure allowing movement thanks to its wheeled versions and to different components which transform these two pieces into adaptative elements for any interior design.

The selection of materials has been crucial to achieve Loom’s authenticity. High-quality materials have been used, such as Alvic finishes and Ecotec fabrics, amongst others, developed with top-notch technologies to provide them with unique physical and mechanical properties. Materials combine with metallic elements to create a contrast that allow them to adapt to any interior space.
